Dr. Chen Liu  Associate Professor of Business

Director, MBA Program

Dr. Chen Liu is the MBA Director and Finance Professor atTrinity Western

University. Dr. Liu obtained her Ph.D. in Financefrom Queen's University in Canada in 2014.Dr. Liu teaches MBA courses in Managerial Finance andVenture Finance, As a professor and consultant, Dr. Liu hasprovided consultation in financial strategy, business valuationand capital market operations for companies in various growthstages and sizes, for the purposes of start-up financing, VC andPE deals, M&A, lPO valuation, and stock investment.On the research side, Dr. Liu's interests lie on (1) valuation,investment banking, and cross-border M&A (2) private equityventure capital, and leveraged buyout, (3) entrepreneuriafinance

and technology management. Dr. Liu also serves on theeditorial board of the Small Business Economics, Journal ofBritish Blockchain Association and Frontiers in Blockchain.

My name is Dr. Chen Liu, and I am your professor of MBA 542 Managerial Finance. I’d like to bring to your attention the following key important information regarding our class:

1.   Moodle page is ready for this class with the course syllabus posted. Please make sure to read the course syllabus carefully. Please see Moodle for more detailed instructions.

2.   Class schedule (April 16-19) as follows: April 16, Thursday:

Evening: 6:30-9:30pm

April 17 & 18, Friday & Saturday: Morning:  8:30am-12:30pm Afternoon: 1:30pm- 5:30pm

Evening: 6:30pm-9:30pm (students work on company report)

April 19, Sunday: Morning:  8:30am-Noon

Afternoon:  1:00pm-5:00pm

3.   There is a pre-class period from March 15 -April 15, when you should read the textbook and complete the pre-class assignment, which is due on April 15 at 5pm.

This is a fast-paced, intensive MBA course. The pre-class assignment emphasizes core definitions used in the class, so we can dedicate our class time to discussing real-world business applications. You should begin your preparation at least 3 weeks before the course begins. The effort you invest in the pre-class preparation will set you up for success on the class discussion and the company reports.

Late submission will not be accepted in any circumstances.

You cannot use any AI tools and you must ensure academic integrity.
 

4. Please note that attendance and active class participation are very important:

Students will get 1 point of participation point deducted for every 30 minutes of class time they miss.

Students who miss 4 hours or more of class time will receive an “F” mark for the class.
